Join the Flocknote email group to have the daily prayers sent directly to your inbox (or as a text, if you don't provide an email).
These prayers will come from the end of the Office of Readings in the Church's Liturgy of the Hours, so you will not only be praying them with others in the parish, but also with lay Catholics, priests, and religious communities who pray this daily throughout the world.
You can take just the 30 seconds it takes to read it slowly;
you can spend five minutes with it at a quiet moment in your day;
you can return to it several times throughout the day;
you can read it together with your kids on the way to school.
Just start somewhere.
This season is a gift. It's meant to let you prepare peacefully and hopefully for the coming of the Lord.
Let the peace of Christ control your hearts, the peace into which you were called in one body. (cf. Col 3:15)
If all you have time to add to your plate is to pray the Scripture and responsory from the calendar, just start there. If you want to do more, however, here are some options for additional Advent preparation.
- Blessing for an Advent wreath
- Blessing for a Christmas tree
- Blessing for a Nativity scene
- Coupon booklet to give as gifts
- Action Cards - draw one each day of Advent (parents can curate the collection so you don't get stuck with something you can't accomplish).
As a tangible sign for younger children, let them have a short piece of yarn for each act of love. They can place it in the manger in your nativity scene, to make it more comfortable for baby Jesus!
- Conversation starters for Advent/Christmas gatherings
- Advent Boot Camp - prayer schedule and readings designed to get you up to 30 minutes of silent prayer
